Dear Stuart,
I'm not sure who coined the phrase "great destruction." Schumpeter? Every new invention destroys/replaces the machines/devices currently in place. These are becoming outdated.
I can list many examples of great destruction."
For example: The carriage and horses have been replaced by the car and the typewriter by the computer.
The fact is that when I joined the Bank in 1971, all equipment was mechanical. These are now museum pieces.
What cannot be replaced by a modern device is friendship.
I am sending you a small gift that represents a French expression:
"Ce sont les petits cadeaux qui entretiennent l'amitié."
It will bring more color into your lives (Ursula's and yours) next spring.
Kind regards from both of us, Vera & Adriaan
