This ceramic jug was produced by Temuka Pottery in New Zealand and was originally manufactured as an electric jug housing, later repurposed once the electrical fitting was removed. Examples of this type were widely made during the mid 20th century, particularly from the 1930s through to the 1950s, when ceramic electric jugs were a common household item in New Zealand. The base is impressed with Temuka’s original numeric factory code rather than a full name stamp, which is typical of utilitarian Temuka wares from this period. Now suitable for decorative or practical use, it is a solid example of mid-century New Zealand domestic ceramics.
