Description

A remarkable late Victorian to Edwardian double Albert watch chain, likely dating from around 1890 to 1910. Made from natural black and blonde horsehair, it reflects the period’s skilled hairwork tradition, when durable woven chains were made for pocket watches, fobs, and sentimental jewellery. This example has desirable chain cored construction, where the horsehair is worked over an internal metal chain for strength and stability. The gold filled dog clips are stamped RADIO, a historic watch chain hardware mark that predates modern radio broadcasting and reflects the late 19th century fascination with radiant energy and new scientific discovery. A rare, highly wearable survivor with craftsmanship, history, and strong collector appeal. M E A S U R E S: Length 41.5 cm. Width 8 mm. Depth 8 mm. Fob drop length 3 cm. Fob 3.5 cm long. Each clip and jump ring 2.4 cm. C O N D I T I O N: Good antique condition with honest age related wear. The main horsehair weave remains tight and stable, with some loose strands near the central T bar and small areas where the internal chain core is visible. The gold filled hardware has warm patina. Dog clips are strong, snappy, and close securely. P L E A S E N O T E: We recommend carefully reviewing the provided photos as they are integral to the item's description.
