Description

Dating approximately to the late 1950s to 1960s, these shades capture the playful Atomic and early Space Age direction of postwar European lighting. White opaline glass was widely used to diffuse light softly, while abstract linear decoration introduced the optimistic graphic language associated with the period. Closely comparable black and grey line motifs with red enamel dots appear on period Philips or Peill & Putzler opaline lighting. M E A S U R E S: Height 21 cm Approximate diameter at widest point 15 cm Base rim diameter 10 cm Top opening diameter 3 cm Matching pair C O N D I T I O N: Very good period condition with light age appropriate surface wear. The painted line decoration and raised red enamel dots remain particularly well preserved. Minor irregularities around the openings are consistent with period glass manufacture and use.
