A genuine antique Chinese camphor wood trunk dating to circa 1900, likely originating from the Tianjin region. Traditionally made in pairs for domestic use, these uncarved chests were used for storing clothing and textiles, with camphor wood prized for its natural insect repellent properties and distinctive aroma. This example features a solid one piece top, hand cut dovetail joinery, and original dark metal fittings including hinges, carry handles, and lock plate. Unlike later carved export pieces, its clean, unadorned form reflects authentic early production. The beautifully grained timber and warm tone make it ideal as a blanket box, storage chest, or coffee table.

C O N D I T I O N:
Good antique condition consistent with age. General surface wear, marks, and patina throughout. A visible age related split to the top panel is present but stable and does not detract from usability. Hardware shows wear and oxidation. Structurally sound and solid. Lovely, light weight due to the camphor wood.
