Description

1908 Royal Crown Derby Unique Marine Scenes by W.E.J. Dean, Rare Nautical Set Attributed to J. Edward Dean (these have a 'D' or part of, imprinted on the cup bases), the Royal Crown Derby Unique Marine Scenes were created in 1908. The artist, W.E.J. Dean, was born in Derby and served as an Apprentice Painter at Royal Crown Derby in the late 1890s until shortly before his death in 1956. Dean was renowned for his exceptional Nautical Scenes and would embark on study trips aboard trawlers to gather reference material for his work. His seascapes were painted in a natural style, and the sails and rigging were executed with such precision that they were highly regarded by nautical experts. The cups and saucers of this set are each unique and hand-painted works of art. It is incredibly rare to find such a large collection that has remained together for the past 115 years. The set includes six cups and saucers, with an additional saucer provided free of charge. The cups measure 5cm in height and 6.5cm in diameter, while the saucers have a diameter of 11cm. Each piece bears the maker's mark on its base, along with the date letter indicating the year of creation as 1908. You won't find another set like this! :) Beautiful!! 6x cups, and 6 saucers + 1 One cup has a chip to the rim (3mm) One cup has a hairline crack from the rim (approx 4cms). Please inspect all photos for further reference.
