Antique solid sterling silver 'master' butter knife featuring an ornate scrollwork handle and broad curved serving blade. Marked STERLING, lion hallmark, 'k' or 'r' and 925 to the reverse. Unlike smaller individual butter knives used at place settings, a master butter knife was a larger communal serving piece placed beside the butter dish for formal table service.
