This substantial vintage casket dates to the 1970s and is attributed to Maitland Smith, a maker renowned for high quality decorative objects using luxurious materials. The box is clad in tessellated stone panels with natural variegation, arranged to create a subtle geometric chevron effect across the exterior. It is raised on brass bun feet and finished with a solid brass spherical handle mounted on a horizontal bar, reflecting strong Hollywood Regency influence. The interior is fully lined, making it suitable for jewellery, keepsakes or desk storage. Maitland Smith pieces are highly sought after, and while this example is unlabeled, documented, and labeled examples of identical construction and design support its authenticity.
