A striking pair of vintage African birthing chairs, hand-carved from solid hardwood in a traditional West African style. These sculptural chairs are composed of two interlocking pieces each — a slotted backrest and a curved seat — that fit together without nails or hardware.
Each chair features elaborate, deeply incised carvings depicting scenes of traditional village life. These chairs were traditionally used during childbirth or as ceremonial seating, symbolising strength, protection, and maternal life.
Their bold relief carvings and sculptural form make them excellent as decorative statement pieces, whether displayed upright or separated to show both carved panels.
A rare set for lovers of ethnographic or tribal furniture, with historical, artistic, and functional appeal.
