No. 23.24.1 Subject Category: Schools, public, Porter Date or Period: 1905 Object: spoon Description: silver demitasse spoon, with engraved in the bowl of the spoon an image of Porter School, on the handle a scroll with the word ‘California’ in fancy capital letters, an image of a seated woman holding a staff, a man with hat panning for gold, and other designs unrecognizable because of oxidation. The spoon is attached with thin iron wire to a piece of board covered on one side with green velt and a typed label. Size: plaque: L 4 7/8" x W 5 1/2", spoon: L 6” History of Object: sterling silver souvenir graduation spoon from Porter School, showing the school after the east and west wing were added. It was hand-engraved by Mr. A. O. Gott, of 2124 Alameda Ave., one of the first jewelers in Alameda. It was given to Mrs. Vernon Thorp, class of 1905, by her mother, and presented to the Historical Society. Acquired from: Mrs. Vernon Thorp. Donation Date: pre-1971. Accession date: 10/2/2023
