History of Object: Documents found in the attic of City Hall prior to renovations in the 1990s. Original crumbling folder, with remnant of tab stating ‘Welcome’, was replaced in 2020. Documents include: A. List of former Alameda High School students who were commissioned in the military; B. letter, January 1919, from the Hall of Records, NYC, to Mayor C. E. Heace; C. Council resolution to form a Committee to organize a welcome (February, 1919); D. Meeting announcement of the committee, March 1919. E. Sepia photo of a drawing of the proposed medal, with ‘honored son’ or ‘honored daughter’ marked in back ‘From Irvine & Jachens, Market St, S.F.’; F. Letter, on stationery featuring an image of the medal, about the San Francisco homecoming event for the 363rd Infantry; G. Letter suggesting a permanent memorial, with penciled comment dated May 21, 1919; H. Letter dated June 10 about a communication, not included; I. Typed parade list; J. official program for the Welcome Home event, flag Day, June 14, 1919, Lincoln Park, mentioning 1300 medals, and featuring a colored in-version of the medal picture.
