Postcard showing Encinal Yacht Club, founded in 1890, when it was located at the end of a 1,000 foot pier at the foot of Grand Street.
Bathers are shown wearing swimming costumes with nautical elements, especially the horizontal white stripes.
The two-story clubhouse was designed by architect Joseph Leonard, and included a banquet hall, a parlor, and men's and women's lounges.
A uniform from 1906-1910, showing the original rectangular burgee of the Yacht Club, is on display in the Fleet Fashion exhibit (weekends in October, 2024 only).
The Club had to move to the other side of Alameda to make place for the South Shore development, and has been at 1251 Pacific Marina since 1960.
