History of Object: Folders relating to efforts to offer a section of Alameda tidelands to be developed as a U.S. Army Air Base (Benton Field). A: a 1929 partial report, including municipal light plant rates, history referring to earlier efforts (lapsed in 1925) and lithographic aerial photo with small decorative airplane; B: Folder marked 'Army Airbase No. 1', with 1928-1930 correspondence Army and War Department, including, newspaper clippings, 1930 election propositions flyer, and 1937 bluelines map of borings; C: Folder marked 'Army Airbase No. 2', with 1930 correspondence with the Army and War Department, including a c. 1927 aerial photo with hand marked areas, and copies of ordinances reflecting Southern Pacific lease, which had to be bought off; D. Folder marked 'Army Airbase No. 3', with 1927-1930 correspondence with interested parties requesting information and report, includes letter with signature from Rear Admiral Moffett.
