Object: Desk, lady's
Description: A desk that appears to be made of mahogany and cherrywood. It has a drop front with a carving in relief of a West Wind motif surrounded by stylized leaves, etc. The desk interior has drawers and pidgeon holes. The lower section of the desk has three individual drawers, the front of which contain a shell decorative design the theme of which harmonizes with the drop front section. The front two legs terminate in claw feet.
Size: H-43” x W-31”
History of Object: A desk originally owned by the Henry Fitch family, early Alameda residents. This desk is attributed to the R. J. Horner Co. of New York, a premier furniture maker of the time. The Fitch family were residents of Alameda in the early 1900's.

LADY'S DROP FRONT DESK
This desk, c. 1895, appears to be made of a combination of mahogany and cherry wood, and has attractive, partially hand-carved, features such as the claw feet as well as the focal point, the symbolic North Wind figure.
