Description: A stainless steel tool in original cardboard box with red lid. On the tool is engraved: The L.S. Starrett Co.', and on the box: No. 85 B-9 in. Starrett Extension Divider Without Caliper Legs'. On the tool marks have been punched in forming the letters EF.
Size (box): L 3 1/2 x W 9 1/2 inches.
History of Object: A tool owned by Ernest R. Fenn, who was a carpenter and lived at 2028 Alameda and 2035 Lincoln Ave.
The tool was created by the L.S. Starrett Company, founded in 1880 by Leroy Starret, who in 1887 hired, and bought the business owned by, inventor Charles P. Fay, who made superior dividers and calipers. The company still exists today as 'Starret Co.', and still makes a No. 85 Divider.
