Of two piece construction, the striker and handle have been turned on a lathe to create decorative patterns. Size: 10½ inches long, striker 2x3½ inches. History of Object: Official gavel, Alameda Branch, Order of the Daughters of St. George (the membership consisted of ladies of English extraction). The Order of St. George, Supreme Lodge, was founded in America in 1884, and was closed in 1976. The Alameda Lodge, Golden Poppy 249, was founded in 1922, and closed when the Supreme Lodge was closed.
