Object: Tool chest.
Description: Hinged, oblong-shaped wooden tool chest, cast iron bail handle on either end, attached by screws for lifting. Interior has two removable liners. Exterior has original black-colored paint.
Size D 20" x W 37 1/2" x H 18 1/2".
History of Object: Tool chest that belonged to John H. Sandkamp, San Francisco watchmaker, who had the first known structure, it being his private residence, at 3212 Garfield Avenue. Tool chest found in basement by donor. The Sandkamp family and descendants owned the house for many years.
