Size each: L 14 3/4” X W 9”. History of Objects: Photo and folders pertaining to the Alameda Airport. A. 1928 Official Army photo of the top of the Estuary, with the railroad lines, and 6 buildings and 4 aircraft; B: Folder about initial phase led by Captain Chadwick Thompson, later incorporated as Alameda Airport Inc., home of Royle Air Lines’ and distributor of Curtiss-Robertson and Swallow planes, later operated by Curtiss-Wright. Includes 1927 correspondence to vacate private Bay Farm Island, Inc. property that had been used as ‘Alameda Airport’, and complaint about low-flying airplanes; C. includes plans to improve the Yacht Harbor by dismantling of the superstructure of the sunken destroyers; use of the Yacht Harbor for bathing / beach area; use of the property to build houses; and hints of Pan American use of the property; D. 1935 correspondence regarding inaugural flight, including official program, and photos (developed at Zane's at 1328 Park St., apparently made by the City Manager, including one of a group of Phillipine observers), of the Pan Am connection to Honolulu, and -unsuccessful- correspondence to mark this an official air-mail flight post stamped in Alameda (1935-1936), 1937 thoughts about how to keep Pan Am; 1935-1936 Appointments of City Council members to the Board of Alameda Airport Inc.; and correspondence related to 1937 buying out by the Navy of Curtiss-Wright, Aeolian Yacht Club, and Pan-Am; E. has copies of the various leases held over the years.
