Subject: Plug tobacco cutter
Description: A cast iron impressed on the bottom in raised figures
"R. H. Co. Reading, Pa. USA Patented Nov.2, 1880". Semi-circular iron plate surrounding blade says "Standard Tobacco Knife" on the reverse side in raised cast letters it says "Reading Hardware Company". Remnants of original black paint with tracery of red and gold decoration. It has a long shaft like handle, which lifts the cutting blade. Size: Base 17" long, by 4" at its widest part. It tapers down to a two-inch handle, with a loop for hanging. The cutting handle is 14".
History of Object: Old fashioned plug tobacco cutter from Oliver A. Zingg's Cigar and Pool room, 1519 Park Street, about 1889.
