Description: Acid free legal size file folder, with documents which are numbered on the back with a stamp or handwritten number, and a stamp ‘Filed’, with a date, and signed by “F. E. Browning”; in some cases the stamp has additionally: “CITY CLERK OF ALAMEDA”. Numbers range from 1651 to 1690.

Miscellaneous documents from / to the council and/or mayor of Alameda, started during tenure of City Clerk F.E. Browning (with later additions), found in the attic of City Hall during remodeling in the 1990s. Documents in this folder especially of interest relate to: Water Bond Issues (1651), Garbage (1657); Auto Bids for the Street Department (1673); Item 1656 - request for regulating speed of traffic, carrying of lights from sunset to sunrise, and warning signs indicating speed; Item 1658 - purchase of a Burroughs Adding machine by/for F.J. Croll - Items 1670 and 1671 - Oath of Office Forms; Item 1675-22: Electric Light Company asks City to turn off lights to better see Halley’s Comet; Item 1676-13 - Derby Lodge, Sons of St. George want to hold a memorial service for King Edward VII; Item 1677- petitions for free business licenses for blind/crippled/poor citizens; Item 1665 - bids and contract for sewer work on Fernside Blvd; Item 1680 - Spreadsheet for Apportionment of taxes; Item 1684 ½ - Edward K. Taylor Attorney letterhead; Item 1685, ordnance re moving pictures; Item 1687 - Roster of police officers and date of hiring, breakdown of crimes, nativity and license fees collected.
