French heels. The interior of both shoes printed with serial numbers 450-12983. History of Object: Pair of shoes worn by an unidentified female member of the Chipman, Dwinelle, & or Tripp family. The following costumes & accessories are known as the Carol Heche collection. They were donated to the museum by Roscoe & D'Arcy Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton being the son of Carol Heche, by her first husband, Roscoe B. Hamilton (member of an old time Alameda family). Mrs. Heche was the granddaughter of Caroline McLean Chipman Dwinelle (after whom Caroline Street, Alameda was named). Caroline was the wife of Wm. W. Chipman (co-founder City of Alameda). Following the death of Chipman, Caroline married Senator John Dwinelle (1878). The costume collection includes clothing worn by Caroline Chipman Dwinelle, her daughter, Elizabeth Chipman Tripp, and her granddaughter, Carol Tripp Hamilton Heche. Mrs. Heche was a longtime teacher for the Alameda Unified School District, where she taught home economics. After the death of her first husband, she married Arthur Heche (Alameda educator & principal). See accompanying biography of Caroline Chipman Dwinelle, compiled by her granddaughter, Carol Heche.
