Description

Acc. No. 21.19.1 Subject Category: Fraternities & Clubs; Elks' Lodge Date or Period: c. 1912 Object: Postcard Description: Sepia-tinted photo postcard of an interior with a taxidermy mount of an elk in a corner, chairs, a Doric pillar, and through a rectangular curtained archway into a second room with fireplace and antlers mounted above the mantel. Size: L 3-1/2" X W-5 1/2" History of Object: Postcard depicting a corner of the Reception Room of the Elks Club, 2255 Santa Clara, Alameda, California, with the card room beyond. Published by Cardinell-Vincent Co., San-Francisco. This card was among cataloged cards, but had no number, nor was there any card description that matched it. At some point after having received a Historical Society label, it had been mounted, thus obliterating the label; after scraping off most of the cardboard, the remnants of the label showed the donor, address, and donation date. Acquired From: Mrs. H. M. Jackson, Donated: July 1952 Cataloged: 2/18/2021
