Full-length off-white wedding dress with lace overlay. The dress is composed of an outer long-sleeved tent dress with a 2” satin band at the hem. The underdress is made of two layers of taffeta with dart shaping at the bust and back bodice. It has an A-line silhouette. The underdress has a straight neckline at the level of mid-arm and a center-back lapped metal zipper. The lace overdress has a boat neckline with scallop detailing and no zipper, slit opening at the center back for entry. Sleeves have a shaped hem pointing downward.
The length of the dress from shoulder to hem is 57”. The sleeve length is 24”.
Included in the ensemble is a cape that attaches to the shoulders of the dress with hooks and thread loops. They are hidden by one bow on each shoulder. The cape doubles as a train. It features a center panel of lace that matches the dress edged with satin. Wide, mitered corners of satin appear along the hem. The length of the cape is 70 ½” long.
The veil is composed of two short lengths of tulle attached to a circular “crown” headpiece of a close-but-not-exact lace pattern as the dress. It features pearl seed beads arranged in a pattern. The length of the veil is 26”. There is a small hole in the veil. Plastic combs attach to the headpiece for securing.
History of Object: The dress was worn at the wedding between Lynda Segerquist and Donald Hamilton in 1968. They were married in the Neighborhood Church at Encinal and Court in Alameda. Donald was in the Navy and stationed at Alameda NAS. The marriage lasted until November 1968.
