Cover design consisting of a winter scene (snow, etc.). Magenta colored silk interior lining. Ornate brass (gold rinsed) catch. Size: L-6 x W-6 inches. History of Object: Jewel box that belonged to Mabel, wife of George Blom, and mother of the donor. George was born in Sweden and came to Alameda about 1897. He was the son of Charles A. Blom, builder, and later carpenter for the Alameda Unified School District. Mabel, born in Texas, came to Alameda about 1920, and was a teller at the Citizen's Bank. She died in 1985 at the age of 92. The Bloms had 2852 Johnson avenue built in 1929. The Charles A. Blom family originally lived at 525 Pacific Avenue, where son George attended Longfellow School.
