Accession No. 11.53.17 Subject Category: City of Alameda; Date or Period: c. 1917 Object: Letter Description: 7-page, handwritten letter on 4 sheets of notepaper from the ‘Asile des Soldats-Invalides Belges’ (‘Home for disabled Belgian Soldiers’), with paintings of war scenes, and a page, with torn left side with caption: Northern California Committee For Commission for Aid for Civil and Military Belgium and France, with a list of names and functions. Size: notepaper: L 9” X W 6” Page: L 7” X W 5” History of Object: Undated letter written by Annie P. Sadler of 1101 Paru (corner San Antonio) to City Manager Hewes, regarding plans by the City to install an ordinance (affecting bottles?) which would interfere with her charity activities on behalf of the Committee. The letter was found in the attic of City Hall in the 1990s. The Committee was involved in Herbert Hoover’s work toward Belgian Relief.
