DESCRIPTION: Variegated green/blue highly glazed pottery vases (pair).
Upper top of vase has handles near opening on each side of opening. There is a raised medallion placed symmetrically on both sides of the vases. Vase a. is in perfect condition. Vase b. is damaged and has been repaired. Vases rest on a wooden pedestal base. Vases are not glazed inside.
Size: Vases are 32" high with an opening of 9 1/2". Base is a square box 18 3/4" x 19" x 5" high which supports a circular pedestal.
HISTORY OF OBJECT:
Presented to the Alameda High school by the first class of four years, graduating in June, 1929. Arthur F. Agard was the motivator behind the giving of the bases and funds were raised by the sale of cookies, etc. Everett Farwell, President of the Board of Education, gave one base in honor of his daughter, Mrs. A. Strehlow. Vases were purchased from the Gladding Mc Bean Company (factory site was San Jose, California) and were said to be quite expensive, (source of information: Mrs. A.
