Description: Pen-and-ink portrait of a woman carrying a bucket, the other hand on her waist, pictured three-quarters but with head turned front. The woman is wearing a wide-brimmed hat and long skirt and blouse, and kerchief around the neck. It is signed near the woman's left foot: "Gertrude Snow '99". The illustration is in a narrow wood frame stained dark, with old glass. The backing is a piece of redwood planking with the name 'Gertrude Snow Brooks' written in black marker.

History of Object: Illustration, perhaps a self-portrait, of Alameda artist Gertrude Snow Brooks (1866-1947), who was living in Alameda by 1899. She was the mother of several children.
The donor purchased this object in an on-line auction, prior history unknown.
