DESCRIPTION: AN OVAL-SHAPED WATERING CAN MANUFACTURED FROM GALVANIZED STEEL. SPOUT HAS A SCREW-ON HEAD OF PIERCED METAL. BODY OF THE HEAD IS PAINTED WITH THE ORIGINAL YELLOW-COLORED PAINT. SIDE OF CAN HAS REMNANTS OF AN ORIGINAL PAPER LABEL IN BLUE-AND-YELLOW COLORED TYPE. LABEL READS, "BOYCO."

HISTORY OF OBJECT: A WATERING CAN MANUFACTURED BY THE COMPANY BOYCO, WHO MANUFACTURED SHEET METAL PRODUCTS. THEY WERE LOCATED ON OAK STREET, NORTH OF BUENA VISTA AVENUE IN ALAMEDA.

A collection of sheet metal containers
produced by the BOYCO MFG. CO.
Originally based in Los Angeles it expanded
operations in 1923 when it purchased
property and initiated construction of a
manufacturing plant in Alameda in 1926,
which was located in the 1800 block of Oak
Street. In 1939 it was bought by the United
States Steel Products Co., which continued
the manufacturing of sheet metal containers.
