Pin commemorating the 3-day event, with parades and displays, culminating in a carnival, put on to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the admission of California as the 31st state to the United States on September 9, 1850. The event was organized by the Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West, with support from various chapters around the Bay, including Alameda. According to newspaper reports from the period, thousands flocked to San Francisco, among them many Alamedans.
