Description: A beautifully bound hardcover journal. Its cover has brown colored leather accentuated with an interlocking swag pattern. The spine and cover are accented with burgundy and gold leather. This journal has original photos of family members affixed to the pages.
Size: L-8 x W-5 3/4 inches.
History of Object: A journal compiled by John Kohlmoos of his life experiences, from his birth in Germany to his death in 1910. John and his brother Herman were responsible for building the Kohlmoos Hotel in the West End that was demolished in the late 1930's (now the site of Longfellow Park). The hotel has a checkered past: after the bankruptcy of the Kohlmoos brothers, served for a short time as a junior college (attended by Jack London), and as a reformatory for delinquent girls.
