Acc. No. 81.243.1 Subject Category: Trophy, sorority Date or period: 1941 Object: Trophy Description: Remnant of trophy missing handles, was manufactured Lakewood Tudor Plate, Oneida Community. Badly scorched and the silver has been literally burned off of it. It has engraving "Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Beta Pledges, 1941". Size: 5 3/4 inches high. History of Object: This is evidence that was stored in large containers at the Naval Air Station taken from the Tahoe Apartments, Central Avenue, which was destroyed after being struck by a naval jet plane. This fragment and others were kept there for seven years. Physical appearance of the trophy gives one the impression of the intensity of the heat and impact of the plane crash. 3/17/2020 MvL: current label: MOLTEN TROPHY Found among the debris of the Tahoe Apartments on Central Ave. that were destroyed by a US Navy training jet from Lemoore NAS en route to Sacramento. Including the pilot, eleven people were killed that day, on Feb. 8th, 1973.
