History of Object:
Documents found in the attic of City Hall, prior to renovations. These documents were originally held together with a metal clip in a folder (discarded in 2011) with a green label on the tab stating: "Government Island - Misc.”. Documents in this folder apparently were gathered because of an accident on the causeway to Government Island, and subsequent need to find out who was responsible for cleaning up. Includes documents 1940-1941 describing transfer of deed, reflecting history of usage, including establishment of the Maritime Training School, and a 1930 Map. In addition, folder includes an undated aerial photo, and a 1963 clipping about the decision by the Coast Guard to improve Government Island and not acquire an alternative property.
