Object: Chimney top
Description: Terra-cotta chimney top, round with eight openings (vents), topped by slanted octagon cover terminating in a finial. Impressed in the terra-cotta on one of the sloping panels on the roof of the chimney top it states "Calcine Fire Clay Pipe, manufactured by N. Clark & Sons, Alameda, Cal".
Size: 16 inches across top, 12 inches across base, 17 inches high.
History of Object: Chimney top from 1823 San Jose Avenue, Alameda.
Erected 1890 by J. A. Leonard & Company, and purchased in 1904 by the parents of the donor, Mr. & Mrs. Herbert D. Clark. The Chimney top fell from the roof of the house during the 1906 earthquake and was unbroken. It was subsequently used as a garden ornament.
