History of Object: Newspaper clipping from a research site, of a 1888 article about the death of Mrs. Henrietta Tappan, nee Chittenden, mother of Alameda Justice of the Peace R.B. Tappan and resident of Alameda's West End since 1856. It mentioned the family bought land from W. Chipman, only to have the rights contested, and their claim to be finally denied after 25 years. The article claimed the house in which she died (in 1880 she lived at 266 Pacific Avenue - that address no longer exists) was one of the oldest in Alameda.
