History of Object: Wood sign for construction projects of Harry C. Knight, who had an office in Oakland, and maintained it, although by 1919 he had moved into one of the houses he built, at 2256 Powell Street, where he lived until his death in 1960. Knight (& Sons) built approximately 36 homes in Alameda, some located in Fernside area, and some in the Roosevelt St. neighborhood. The parents of the donor bought the house in 1973, where this board was discovered during a clean-up. (A matching board was discarded after donation because it had severe mold growing on it).
