Description:
A. Figural type marionette in the form of a stereotyped Native American dressed in woven tan pants and tunic, machine-sewn, decorated with orange felt fringe and appliqué, around the neck a decoration of green fabric. Body of the marionette is a piece of wood, with some padding, hands and feet are yellow painted wood, head appears a composite material with black strings glued-on for hair, marked 'C'. Head is attached to body with a looped metal wire. Facial features are painted on. Marionette is operated by black-colored string attached to a manipulator. Movable chin allowing to have the mouth opened and closed is attached to a red plastic ring.
B. Original box, decorated with multi-colored illustration on a base of yellow, depicting a head with orange hair, freckles, and a blue bandana, and a marionette of a female figure dressed in Native American style, with feather in hair, with caption, "Summer Fall - Winter Spring" and "Marionette", copyright Kagran. Comes with advertising flyer (C) stating 'Peter Puppet presents the New 1952 marionette line...', copyright Kagran Corp.
Box is in bad condition.

History of object:
Marionette used by Doris H. Goodman, actress, who entertained groups of children with marionettes. This marionette was based on a character in the 1950s TV show Howdy Doody.
Found in the museum storage area, and attributed to be of this collection in 2024.
