Description: a red wooden toy locomotive with yellow wheels and metal hook at rear. On the sides the word ‘Playskool’ is added in white cursive type. The red paint is badly worn off, including on the maker's name on one side, and the metal pins in the wheels and on the front have rust spots.
Size: L4.0 x W-2.0 x H-2.5 inches.
History of Object: a 1950s Playskool toy. Originally may have been in a set with tender and wagons, which would be attached through the hook in the back. Donated in honor of this family: Elsie Follrath including her son Ben Follrath, grandson Bob Follrath, and great granddaughter Beverly Johnson (a former Mayor of Alameda). The Playskool Institute began in 1928 in Wisconsin as a subsidiary of a lumber company, developing wooden toys. In 1940 the brand was bought and turned into the Playskool Manufacturing Company.
