Size: L 4" x W 6" History of Object: Postcard, part of a series commemorating Naval Air Station, Alameda, when it was slated to be closed, in April, 1997, as result of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action. This postcard shows the workers and staff working on SOC-1, which in January 1941, became the first aircraft to be reworked. As per the legend, NAS was commissioned on November 1, 1940, and played a vital role during WWII. The Assembly and Repair (A&R) Department overhauled 23 different models, and 53 types of aircraft in addition to 21 types of engines, and employed more than 30,000 civilian workers.
