Description: Door plate with decorative edges and incised escutcheon engraved in script "P.A. McDonell". The plate appears to be made of a pewter-like material that has a dull silver grey color. The plate is mounted with two screws on a pine wood panel (with beveled edges).
Size: wood panel-6x9 inches, plate-7x4 inches.
History of object: Front door plate of the Powell A. McDonell home, Bay Farm Island, Alameda. The McDonell family were early pioneers of the island, owning and farming a large tract of land there. McDonell, Benedict, Cleveland, & McCartney families were the first settlers of the island. At one time there was a road on the island named in honor of the McDonell family.
