Description: a. Envelope with bold printed caption "Ninth Flight-Manila, P. I. to Alameda, California, U.S.A.” Addressed to Mr. R. P. Bowman, S.F. Bay Airdrome, Alameda, Calif. The rest of the envelope face is entirely covered with Philippine postage stamps. On the reverse side is a printed list of the personnel aboard the plane, followed by their autographs. Size: L-3 1/2 x W-6 1/2 inches.
b. hand written letter on stationery from the Manila Hotel, Manila, P.I. Size: L-8 1/2 x W-5 1/2 inches.
History of Object:
Letter & envelope addressed to Ray Bowman, San Francisco Bay Airdrome, from Theron E. Griffin, Engineer Officer, Pan American Airways (China Clipper). Sent on an historic ninth flight from Manila, P.I. to Alameda, via Guam, Wake Island, Midway Island and Honolulu, 1936.
