No. 11.54.1 (A-E) Subject Category: Businesses of Alameda Date or Period: c. 1870's Object: Curtain tie-back medallions Description: Ornate tie-back medallions with pseudo fire guiding on brass and with a central motif of a cast iron bust of ladies and gentlemen and faux Elizabethan costumed heads. Bronze finish. Items A and B are women, items C, D and E are of men. Size(ea.): L-7 1/2 x W-5 inches. History of Object: Medallions removed from the curtain tie-backs of the Edwin Mastick home on Pacific Avenue, west of 9th Street. The house, a large Italianate-style mansion, was demolished many years ago. (Note: there is a photograph of it in the Museum collection.) Mr. Mastick, attorney, was a prominent Alameda resident. Following his death in 1901 the name of the Bay Street School was changed to Mastick School in his honor. (A later structure of this school eventually became the Mastick Senior Center.)
