Acc. No. 81.154.1 A & B Subject Category: City Hall Date or period: Circa 1920's Object: Telephone and Earphones Description: It has a shaft on a pedestal (circular). It has a nickel plated speaker box with hard rubber mouthpiece. A metal plaque says: "Western Electric Co. patented U.S.A. Jan.14, 1913". There is a head-set black, hard plastic ear pieces. Metal head grip is covered with a black woven material. Each ear receiver has a paper seal stating "The Chief, E.F. Cannon, Springwater, N.Y.". Sizes: Telephone is (B) 12" high, circumference of the base is 5½" and mouthpiece is 1 3/4" across. (A) Earphones measure 20" from ear piece over the head to ear piece. History of Object: Old Style telephone and head ear receivers used in the Alameda City Hall about 1920. Acquired from : City of Alameda Date: February, 1959
