Description: Octagon-shaped hanging wall clock by the Waterbury Clock Co., Connecticut. Has a painted face with roman numerals and ornate metal hour and minute hands. The clock case appears to be constructed of oak with a dark varnish stain finish. The lower portion of the clock case contains a small door on hinges. The door has a glazed front with reverse painting in gold and black. When the door is open, it reveals the original instruction sheet and brass pendulum.

History of Object: Clock from the cigar store of John F. Hanson, 1431 Park St. The firm was originally known as Koerber and Hanson. John F. was the son of Captain James Hanson, Master Mariner, of 2204-06 Buena Vista (still standing). The Hanson family was in Alameda as early as 1875. The donor, the son of John F. Hanson, Sr., is also the grandson of Captain Hanson.
