Heidt,” with an embossed emblem and gold colored type with an elk's image and “1015”, which is presumably the number of the Elk Lodge which the owner belonged to. Size: L-2” x W-3 1/2” History of Object: The calling card of Charles Heidt, who worked at his father-in-law's business, a cornice works (roof gutter) in San Francisco. The Heidt family resided at 2221 San Antonio Ave., Alameda. Charles was the father of Horace Heidt, a famous band leader. Charles Heidt had married the daughter of Joseph Forderer, who owned the cornice works in San Francisco. In 1895, Mr. Forderer provided the cornice work for the Alameda City Hall.
