Description: Two framed checks in linked frames of silver-painted wood. Both are marked Treasurer of the United States and have the image of the seal the treasury - scales and a key in a shield within a circle and outer circle stating 'Thesaur Amer Septent Sigil' in capitals. The top check, number 43,019, typed date 26 Nov. 1937, is from 'Navy' to City of Alameda, location San Francisco, for 'One Dollar Only', for 'Open Purchase'. The bottom check, number 133,617, stamped date Jul 23 1940, has location Washington D.C., is also 1 Dollar, from the Public Roads Administration General.

History of Object: Checks for the symbolic price of $1 with which the Navy and the Public Roads Administration bought the tidelands to the west of Alameda, and the Alameda Airport, to build the Naval Air Station, Alameda.
Found recently (2024) in the attic of City Hall. These originally were on display in City Hall.
