History of Objects: Bound Editions of the Alameda Argus and Alameda Daily Argus. The paper began as the Alameda Argus, published twice per week, on Dec 6, 1877, with T.G. Daniells as editor and owner, and it became the Alameda Daily Argus in 1892. The Evening Times Star reported on Sept 5, 1912 that Walter A. Grahn had purchased the Argus. The last issue of the paper was September 30, 1912, with W.A. Grahn publisher, and J.S. Daveler as Manager. In this edition a notice was posted that as of October 1st, 1912, the Argus would be combined with the Evening Times Star. The first time 'Argus' appears on the Times-Star masthead is in January 1, 1913.
Date of donation is unknown, at least before 2019. The labels indicate these books were donated to the Alameda Museum by the Alameda Free Library, at some point in time after the books were scanned for microfiche, since they contained notes stating ‘scanned’. Donors mentioned on labels donated funds for the binding of the newspapers.
Some editions in this range were previously cataloged under numbers in the range 2004.15.
