No. 21.4.1 Subject Category: City of Alameda, Citizens of Alameda Date or Period: 1955 Object: Badge Description: Engraved gold plated shield shaped badge topped with a decorative design of an eagle with outstretched wings. Enameled blue letters state 'Councilman', 'City of Alameda'. The word Alameda is on an engraved scroll. Back has a pin, and is engraved 'Sidney A. Haag', 'January 4, 1955', and on the bottom left, angled, is stamped 'Gold from Ed. Jones'. Size: L 1 1/2" History of Object: City councilman's badge of Sidney A. Haag (1903-1891). He was appointed to the Housing Authority on January 1954, then was appointed to the City council on January, 1955, upon resignation of Mayor Leland W. Sweeney (who left for the Alameda County Board of Supervisors); Haag subsequently was voted onto the City Council but resigned in 1957. Later he served on the Youth Activities Committee from 1959-1960, and the Redevelopment Agency from 1961 until its dissolution in 1964. Haag and his wife Frances (~1908-1995) were parents of Susan Durein, wife of Douglas Durein, owners of 1507 Park Street.
