History of Object: Newspaper article from an unknown newspaper, illustrated with a sketch of the old Schermerhorn School, established in 1855 in the former residence of John M. Schemerhorn, on the corner of Mound and Van Buren, which had at that time 7 students. The article states It was replaced in 1864 by Alameda School, while the original building was moved to become part of the Loyal Oak Hotel on Park Street. The Alameda School in turn was replaced in 1891 by Wilson School, in 1911 renamed to Lincoln School. The article also gives the names of the first 18 students at Alameda School.
