Description: Silver plated bar pin (with raised lettering stating "Daughters of St. George" and insignia of crown & shield) The bar pin is pierced and supports by metal loops a celluloid panel with black lettering "Vice-President". This in turn supports a circular pendant with metal trim enclosing a colored lithograph depicting St. George and the dragon (covered with celluloid). The pin is backed by two oblong ribbons (silk), one black (inside), and the other red, white, & blue (outer).
Size: 4 inches in length, 2½ inches wide.
History of Object: Officer’s medal, Alameda Branch, Order of the Daughters of St. George (the membership consisted of ladies of English extraction). The Alameda Lodge, Golden Poppy 249, was founded here in 1922, and closed in 1976. Beginning in the 1950's the lodge met at the Knights of Pythias Hall, Oak Street, Alameda, until the membership became too small.
The last three years of the lodge’s existence they conducted meetings at the home of the donor (an officer), Mrs. Edith C. McGinnis.
