Acc. No. 07.18.1 Subject Category: Dentists Date or Period: C. early 1900's Object: Dental press Description: Dental press fabricated from iron with Japanned finish. It has embossed lettering stating: "Dental Mfg. Co. of Buffalo, N.Y.". The press has an attached movable propeller handle. The base has two screw holes for table attachment. Size: H-6 1/4 x W-8 inches. History of Object: From original attached annotation: "Old fashioned press used in the making of vulcanite rubber dentures by Harry D. Smith, DDS (the first appointed Alameda Museum curator) about 1902". It was donated to the AHM in July, 1954, but was never properly cataloged at that time. Dr. Harry Smith and his brother W. O. Smith came to Alameda in the early 1900's from Addison where they were members of a pioneer family. Acquired from: Harry D. Smith, DDS Date: 03/17/07
